Fall Fashion Week: VII

Please don't let my smile fool you, I'm wearing black for a reason.

DSC01917

I'm mourning the end of fall fashion week.

DSC01920

... and we have a black and white dress code at work and I had a shift yesterday right before I took these pictures.

I am sad, though, to see the posting part of fall fashion week come to an end.

DSC01930

But, I look forward to going back through the week and checking out all the fun posts I missed.
I'll be stopping by this weekend to say, "Hi!"

Thank you to all the sweet participants for your encouragement and support. As each day passed and comments were left I couldn't help but feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this crazy bloggy community.  Mostly though I want to thank Emery of moms are for everyone for hosting this little shindig. It's that beautiful, creative and fashion forward lady that makes all this fun possible.  Would you do me a favor? Even if you haven't participated in fall fashion week as a blogger will you stop by (just click HERE) and give her some love? My guess is that she's put an enormous amount of effort into this week - though you'd never know it since she's looked so stinkin' cute every day. She's never been frazzled or frayed, it's amazing. Let's let her know we recognize her effort and truly appreciate it!

Thank you so much, Emery.

Happy Friday everybody!
Hope your weekend is relaxing and wonderful.

Fall Fashion Week: VI

A few weeks ago, as I was perusing the September issues, I came across a feature in InStyle.  It was called "Layering Made Simple" and it suggested that this fall, long layers over long layers (among other layering combinations) were the thing.

DSC01899

As I flipped through the feature, this outfit was conceived.

DSC01905

Problem is, in preparation for this post I could not find the trend mentioned ANYWHERE else on the Internet. Not even InStyle.com posted pictures that I could find!

DSC01902

Oh well, at least I got a funky new combo to throw into the repertoire. Although, I'm not sure I'll be putting too much faith in the long layers over long layers trend.

DSC01911

You know what I do put faith in? I have faith in the photography of one Miss Lexi.  We spent just a few minutes together yesterday taking photos and I ended up with this post! I was snarky and not in the mood to get my picture taken. But what can I say? She brings out my silly. (thank you, Lexi.)

The week is almost up, but there's still time to check out Emery and all the other fashionable ladies participating in fall fashion week.  Maybe you should even throw a little ditty together and join in the fun tomorrow!!! Better late than never...

Fall Fashion Week: V

I learned a very valuable lesson last night while out doing Karaoke.
(Yes, I do Karaoke until midnight on Tuesday nights. I'm a real party girl.)

DSC01846

Trying to take outfit pics in a bar is not easy.

DSC01849

Most of the pictures look like this.
(Although, now that I think about it, I might have looked like that to a few patrons of the establishment...)

DSC01860

So, here's what I have for you.

DSC01861

I submit to you a few rather blurry and totally silly photos of myself and some of my favorite ladies putting on a pretty killer show.
(We sang Ace of Base - The Sign and Outkast - Hey Ya! in case you were wondering.)

Thanks to Miss Lexi who dreamt up and organized such a fun, fun evening.

Ideal fall fashion week photos? No. But pictures that are worth 1000 words and memories to last a lifetime? For sure.

Do you have a go-to Karaoke jam?

Fall Fashion Week: IV

My favorite trend this fall is the whole Mod thing.
There is just something so fun and flirty about it.

If you're looking for more Mod inspiration check out Elle Magazine, WhoWhatWear, InStyle, Harper's Bazaar, and Vogue (okay, that's Teen Vogue but you get the gist).
It's EVERYWHERE!!!!

Fall Fashion Week: III

If you follow A Foreign Land on Facebook or little ol' me on Twitter you probably know that the handsome hubby and I spent the last week-ish in New York city. The fact that we've arrived back home smack dab in the middle of fall fashion week is probably good news for you. It means you are saved from the multitude of vacation wrap up posts that are swimming around my head. I have literally hundreds of pictures that I would love to share with you. I have many, many stories to tell, but fashion week has rescued you. Now you'll only have to read through a handful. Call it yet another reason to fall in love with fall fashion week.

{here's me posing it up at Lincoln Center}

That being said, you've stumbled onto a little bit of a hybrid fashion week/ trip log post. Hang in there, I won't go on too long.

During our visit, we had the opportunity to see three Broadway shows.  It was kind of out of control.

Now if you're keeping track, War Horse won the Tony for best play this year. The Book of Mormon won the Tony for best musical. And Anything Goes? It won for best revival.

DSC01528

I told you. It was out of control.
Wanna hear something even cooler? The tickets to War Horse were a gift from my mother in law.  (THANK YOU, MAGGIE!) The hubby won the tickets to The Book of Mormon in the ticket lottery on our FIRST TRY. (In case you're wondering how tough it is to get tickets, there was a lady in the box office buying tickets for the show in MAY.) Then we bought the Anything Goes tickets at the TKTS booth in Times Square (read: heavily discounted).

Go ahead, say it with me everybody, "Out of control."

I'd review the shows, but really it would just end up being a few paragraphs filled with words like, "outstanding," and "unbelievable," and "incredible." I'd gush and ooze even more and it would bore all of you to tears. Suffice it to say these shows won Tony awards for good reasons.  They really were incredibly outstanding and I find it unbelievable that we had the chance to experience them all in one week.  Guess that means we can cross "see a(nother) Broadway show" off the Ultimate To DO list!

Out. Of. Control.

But enough about NYC.  Let's talk fashion week. If you haven't visited Emery's blog moms are for everyone it is time you do it. Not only are you going to get to meet Miss Emery and enjoy her amazing style, you'll find links to tons of other bloggers participating in the fashion week link up. I'm telling you, you'll thank me for it. Now, go.

Fall Fashion Week: II

A week ago, my beautiful friend Lexi (go see her fashion week posts!!) set up a "photo booth" in our back room for a party.

DSC01404

I decided to take advantage of the pretty background for some outfit shots.

DSC01407

There was a problem though. Our back room is really small.
Meaning, full length shots weren't the easiest to maneuver.

DSC01399

That just means you're missing out on the boots.
Thankfully, you aren't missing all that much and I can fill you in. My boots are tall and brown.
You're welcome.
If my explanation wasn't sufficient and you're still dying to see a full shot of the boots in action, check here to catch them during the LAST fall fashion week.

Green Pencil Skirt**: JCrew :: Invisible Boots: Victoria's Secret

Oh, one other issue, the camera seemed to be more interested in focusing on the background print than my outfit.  I'm trying NOT to take that personally.

Fall Fashion Week: I

It's here! It's here! It's finally here!
Fall Fashion week has arrived and I'm so excited!!
Though, I have a feeling the plethora of exclamation points communicated that sufficiently.

DSC01388

The flowering bushes behind me may scream spring, but I can assure you fall temperatures have landed in Chattanooga. Look, I'm even wearing a cardigan.
