Summer Fashion Week VII

We’re wrapping up Summer Fashion Week. Are you as bummed as I am? At least we can still have lots of fashion fun today! Woo HOO!

The tour keeps chugging forward here at A Foreign Land. Of course, no tour of Chattanooga would be complete without a stop by the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

You know…
“Pardon me, boy, is this the Chattanooga Choo Choo?”

The Chattanooga Choo Choo gained notoriety in the 1880s when it became the first line to connect rail travel in the North to the Southern railways. Nearly 100 years later, Glen Miller immortalized the Choo Choo with his chart topping song “Chattanooga Choo Choo.”

Apparently in its hey day, Chattanooga was quite the rail hub. The station hasn’t seen active train traffic since the early 1970s though.

LOOK! My shoes match the fish!

The “Choo Choo” station was converted into a hotel in 1973. Since it is less than 5 minutes from my house I’ve never had the pleasure of staying there as a guest. While I can’t attest to its comfort I can definitely give its courtyard garden two enthusiastic thumbs up. Filled with train cars to explore and lovely little gazebos, it is especially beautiful in the summertime when all the fountains are operating and the roses are in bloom.

The Choo Choo's most recent brush with fame came back in 2008 when Rachel Ray stopped by with her show $40 a Day to have Dinner in the Diner. There’s an old train car that’s been converted into an “intimate” restaurant. Sounds kind of fun, maybe we’ll try it…

Now for the last day of fashion week’s fashion:
